Who can invest?

To invest on Billfolda you must be over 18 years old and legally entitled to invest. Investors must be resident in Australia or a country where you may legally receive financial promotions of the nature provided by Billfolda and are legally entitled to invest in the type of investments offered. Billfolda does not advertise investment opportunities to people in the United States, Canada, Japan or any other country where it would be unlawful for our pitches to be advertised. Investors must not register or view pitches if they are resident in these countries.

When registering on Billfolda you will be asked to confirm if you are an exempt investor, if you are not, we will consider you a ‘retail investor’ and apply a $10,000 per company per annum cap on applications to invest. To upgrade your account to a s708 exempt investor status we require you to complete a short questionnaire and provide us with evidence of your status. We do not guarantee this upgrade and note that it may take time to verify a change in status request. For further information on Billfolda investor types and who they relate to please see here.

How do I invest?

You will firstly need to register as a Billfolda member before investing. Once you have found a business you would like to invest in simply enter the amount you wish to invest in the 'Amount' box and click 'Invest'.

You are able to pay for your investment using our third party payment provider the Commonwealth Bank of Australia using a debit. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept payment by cheque, bank transfer or credit card. Your payment will be held by the commonwealth bank until the pitch has hit or exceeded its target. We will mark the offer as completed and request that you finalise the required legal documentation and the company will issue you shares.

If the pitch does not reach its target then your investment money will be refunded.

If you change your mind within 5 working days of the investment we will issue a refund. Should a replacement document be required for any reason (positive or negative), you will have a total of 30 days to request a refund or continue with your investment.

Investors can access the company constitution and other shareholder documents prior to investment.

The minimum investment can be as low as $250

How can I make a profit?

You can make a profit in the event the company you have invested in pays dividends or makes an 'exit' in the future. Exits typically include a trade sale, IPO or share buyback. Please read the pitch documents carefully for further information.
